Johns Mountain and Pinhoti Loop is a 5 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Villanow, Georgia that features a waterfall and is rated as difficult. It was an enjoyable hike with rewarding views of the waterfall and the overlook. Hiking boots aren’t necessary but you’ll be walking at various angles and on lots of lose rocks so if you have them, wear them!

Johns Mountain Loop begins in a gravel parking area.  The trail really begins with one of its best features. Trail Head if you want a really tough final mile. Please note: As of November 2019, the John's Mountain overlook has been closed indefinitely due to vandalism. Afterward viewing the falls, head back to the trail, and cross over the creek via a small wooden bridge that leads to the falls. Not only do you have a great view right from the trailhead, there is now a side trail to an amazing view behind the Keown Falls observation platform. When you get near the parking lot, turn left to finish the loop.

6. Decided to come here on a last minute decision and the views were gorgeous and there was not a lot of traffic. This loop will provide hikers with fantastic views from both sides of the Johns Mountain ridge. This 24,849-acre property offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey and small game. Moderate if began by crossing the parking lot and entering the trail on the downhill portion (the true trail head). I recommend that beginners, or those looking for a simpler, more enjoyable hike begin with the true trail head by crossing over the gravel parking lot from the overlook deck and beginning with a steep downhill climb. Really beautiful when you get to the top. Turn Left onto Floyd Springs Road (keep following the Camp Sidney Dew signs).

This trail is temporarily closed due to the “c” word. Contact the park if you have any questions. The pocket campground is on this road, as the entrance to Keown Falls, and finally, the entrance to Johns Mountain Overlook. The picnic area is beautiful with the creek flowing right through it. With a very short (100 or so feet) walk from the trail is the Keown Falls upper observation deck. But don’t  ignore the loop trail.  The true trail head of the loop appears to be opposite of the overlook. We passed about 5 people while hiking but the parking lot was full when we returned. From the parking lot of Johns Mountain, take in the excellent views of the ridges and valleys to the west from the overlook. Saw a ton of little critters and cool plants and shrooms.
